Iowa fuel prices climb as crude oil moves higher

The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa rose 14 cents from last week and now stands at $2.59 per gallon, according to AAA.

The statewide average is 38 cents lower than a year ago. Nationally, the average price Wednesday was $2.98 per gallon, up 6 cents from last week.

According to GasBuddy, as of Wednesday afternoon, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was selling for $2.64 in Hampton, $2.39 in Belmond and $2.65 in Allison.

Retail diesel prices in Iowa increased 13 cents this week to an average of $3.53 per gallon. That is 8 cents higher than a year ago but 22 cents lower than the national average of $3.75.

In crude oil trading, West Texas Intermediate rose $3.86 per barrel this week to $65.46. Brent crude increased $3.06 to $70.78 per barrel. One year ago, WTI was $69.15 and Brent crude was $73.11.
