The #6 (2A) Aplington-Parkersburg boys basketball team will appear in a substate final for the first time since 2023 Saturday. They’ll take on Cascade inside the McLeod Center, needing one more win to clinch a state tournament appearance.
The Falcons advanced with Tuesday’s 75-68 home win over Crestwood, where they surged in the fourth quarter after trailing for most of the game. Head Coach Aaron Thomas describes what gives him confidence entering the matchup.
“Being in tough games is huge, and Cascade’s got a good team,” Thomas says. “They’ve got a really, really good player. But I know we’re going to do the work. We’re going to come in confident. And it’ll be another tough game. Looking forward to the opportunity. Just so happy our kids are going to get the opportunity to play to go to state.”
Cascade advanced with a 41-37 win at Monticello Tuesday after being swept by the Panthers in the regular season series. With 24.1, Mick Hoffman is second in Class 2A in points per game.
The game will air on 99 The Wave with pregame coverage at 7:45 p.m. and the opening tipoff at 8:00.
