The #5 (2A) Grundy Center boys basketball team has advanced to a third consecutive state tournament appearance. The Spartans defeated Beckman Catholic 56-44 in Saturday’s 2A Substate 3 Final inside the McLeod Center, as aired on 99 The Wave.
The Spartans had a well-executed game plan, controlling it from the opening tipoff. Holding their opponent to five points in the first quarter, they led 34-19 at halftime. The Blazers heated up from the field to get within nine points midway through the second half, but efficient shooting helped close the game out in the end.
