AGWSR Girls Basketball looks to use offseason to build into next season

The AGWSR girls basketball team will look to bounce back from going 0-22 this season when it begins offseason preparation. Head Coach David Koop says a major factor of this season was inexperienced players adapting to the speed of the varsity game.

“Understanding in the varsity game, those little things you’re not going to get away with, you’re not going to get away with a bad pass in a press and getting lucky, there’s a lot less of ‘we got lucky that time.'” Koop sasy. “It just takes playing basketball, and we didn’t have the greatest summer last year, just with a bunch of different factors played into that. But we need to have a good offseason this year. And I think our girls finally understand that after a year like we had, that we have got to get better if we want to have better results. And that’s been super motivating for them. It’s been super motivating for me.”

Leading the team scoring and steals per game, sophomore Natalie Sizemore earned honorable mention status on the NICL all-conference lists. Koop says she’s motivated to improve next season.

“For a sophomore, Natalie really took a huge step this year. From no varsity last year to 28 minutes a night, she wants to be a really good basketball player. She took good steps this year. She has a lot of things to still work on. I’m super excited to where she’s going to be at the beginning of next year. I she’s super motivated to make sure that we have a better year next year.”

Three seniors have departed the program.
