The Belmond City Council held a public hearing Monday on conveying portions of streets and alleys previously vacated under Ordinance 476. With no public comments received, the council approved a resolution to convey the real property to adjacent owners.
Council members also approved Pay Estimate No. 1 for the 2026 Third Street Northeast project to Denver Underground and Grading Inc. for work including tree removal in the right-of-way and utility locating.
During a budget discussion, City Manager Cody Nicholas reviewed how property tax revenue supports departments such as police, fire, the library and city hall, while public works is largely funded through Road Use Tax funds. Council agreed to move forward with the current budget proposal for now.
The council also discussed six remaining low-to-moderate income lots in the Dumond Estates subdivision. Officials plan to begin the process of removing the area from an urban renewal designation so the lots could be sold to non-LMI buyers, with proceeds placed into a future LMI housing fund.
