IFA Hoops looking to build into next season

The Iowa Falls-Alden boys basketball team has concluded its season at 2-20. Head Coach Mike Holm hopes the members of the team have gained an understanding of the importance of offseason work as they look to build for next season.

“Hopefully they understand that it’s not a November to March season,” Holm says. “It’s a year-round deal, and to put the time in the offseason. And I know kids are busy with 38 different sports and jobs and all that stuff. But if they want to commit to something, I think they really need to lock it down and start putting in time as a group, not just single, but as a group to get to as many camps and different things that they can get to, to play as much as possible. I think that’s gonna be the biggest takeaway to see what kind of attitude they have going into the summer and what kind of work they wanna put towards next season.”

While the season didn’t go as planned, Holm says they accomplished some small goals in the last several games by rebounding better and cutting down on the number of turnovers.

“We rebounded well with a lot of teams, and that goes down to the kids understanding that if we were gonna be competitive, we needed to do those little things. And a lot of those games at the end, we kept our turnovers under or close to what we wanted per game, which was 15. We rebounded, we wanted at least 30 rebounds a game and there were times where we got over 30 and it was close. So we had growth that way, and I was just proud of the boys for hanging in there and trying to do those little goals that we set each night to accomplish that, push towards where we wanted to go.”

Karson Kalous finished as the team’s points and steals per game leader at 10.8 and 2.7. Colin Pieper led in rebounding with 5.8 per game.

Three seniors have departed the program.
