The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comment on a proposed increase to hunting, fishing and trapping license fees.

If approved, the new prices would take effect Dec. 15 for the 2027 recreation year.

Under the proposal, the cost of a resident hunting license and resident fishing license would increase by one dollar. A resident deer license would rise by $1.50, the resident trout fee would increase by 50 cents, and resident lifetime hunting and fishing licenses would increase by $2.50. The increase would apply to all licenses and related fees.

The DNR says this would be the first increase in license fees since 2019.

The fee increase was approved for consideration during the February meeting of the Natural Resource Commission.

Public comments will be accepted through March 24. Comments can be emailed to wildlife@dnr.iowa.gov, submitted by phone at 515-201-3376, or delivered in person at a public meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. March 24 at 6200 Park Avenue, Suite 200, in Des Moines.
