The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows School Board held a hearing Tuesday on the district’s proposed calendar for the 2026–27 school year.

Under the proposal presented to the board, classes for students would begin Monday, August 24th. Winter break would run from December 23rd through January 3rd, with a teacher workday scheduled for January 4th and students returning January 5th. Spring break is planned for March 15th through March 19th, 2027.

Graduation for the class of 2027 is scheduled for Sunday, May 16th, with the final regular day of classes set for May 26th, pending any weather-related make-up days. The board later approved the calendar as presented.

During the meeting, Superintendent Joe Nelson also reported current district enrollment at 1,029 students, down slightly from 1,033 last October.

The board approved a resolution urging Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Legislature to increase state supplemental aid for public schools by 5% for the next school year.

The board also approved plans to move forward with designing a press box, restrooms and concession stand at the district’s ball field and approved the purchase of a new 65-passenger school bus from School Bus Sales in the amount of $159,000.00.
