Ryan Peterman, a former Navy helicopter pilot, filed nomination petitions and an affidavit this week to appear on the ballot for the Democratic nomination in the race for Iowa secretary of state. His campaign says Peterman submitted more than double the number of signatures required to qualify.
Peterman says the campaign will focus on protecting voting rights and bringing what he describes as nonpartisan leadership to the secretary of state’s office.
Peterman is currently the only Democrat to have filed for the office.
The Iowa secretary of state oversees the state’s elections system and business registrations.
