The Greene City Council met Monday, March 9th, at the Greene Community Center.

During public comment, resident Sarah Wadey addressed the council regarding the city’s sidewalk snow removal ordinance. Wadey said she and others received fines for not clearing snow from sidewalks and asked the council to consider amending the policy. She suggested adjusting the current 24-hour removal requirement and lowering the fine structure to $50 for a first offense, $100 for a second and $200 for a third. Wadey also said she believes renters, rather than landlords, should be responsible for clearing sidewalks.

Jeff Stirling, speaking on behalf of the Greene Volunteer Ambulance, stressed that cleared sidewalks are important for the safety of emergency crews and patients, noting that snow and ice can make it difficult to move a stretcher.

In other business, the council set April 6th at 5:30 p.m. as the date and time for a public hearing on the city’s proposed property tax levy for the next fiscal year. Officials also set city clean-up day for May 2nd and approved disposing of city-owned property at 12 High School Blvd.
