This story has been updated to include a response from H-D Superintendent Tim Felderman.
High winds Thursday (3/12/26) night and Friday (3/13/26) morning have caused visible damage at Hampton-Dumont High School. RadioOnTheGo News received a tip from a listener who drove by and noticed parts of the original gym’s roof being lifted and moved by the wind. Photos show the roof’s membrane shifting, while workers were seen on site Friday afternoon making repairs ahead of a winter storm expected this weekend.
Superintendent Tim Felderman says the wind affected the roof membrane, flashing, and gutters, and debris also damaged a skylight. He says the building remains safe for students and staff, and emergency repairs with a temporary roof membrane were made to protect the gym ahead of the weekend weather. Permanent repairs are planned for next week when warmer temperatures will allow the materials to be properly installed. All costs will be covered by the district’s property insurance.
At the time of the damage, the National Weather Service had a high wind warning in effect across the area, with gusts reported up to 60 miles per hour and sustained winds near 30 to 35.
