A winter storm and high winds left hundreds of Wright County residents without power Sunday (3/15/26) night. Following a news tip from Dows, RadioOnTheGo News followed up with Alliant Energy who reported that more than 300 customers were affected by an outage caused by a broken arrester. Emergency switching was carried out as soon as crews could safely access the equipment, and many homes had power restored by later in the night.

Meanwhile, MidAmerican Energy says in a press release that its crews worked through the night in difficult conditions to restore service to customers impacted by the blizzard and bitter cold. They say most customers had power back by around 6 a.m., while restoration in northwest and north‑central Iowa continued into the rest of the day Monday (3/16/26).

Franklin REC reported on social media that hazardous roads and winter conditions prevented crews from reaching some outages early Monday. By 7:30 a.m., crews had begun working with Franklin County’s Secondary Roads Department to reach previously inaccessible areas and restore power to customers near Popejoy.
