The Clarksville City Council addressed property, public safety and community improvement topics during its meeting Monday.

Council members tabled a resolution authorizing the sale of city-owned property to the county following a public hearing, as officials consider alternative land options. Discussion also continued on a temporary stop sign on the north side of town, with the council indicating it will remain in place through the end of the school year before reassessment.

The council approved a new appreciation award program for the volunteer fire department, with funding to be included in a future budget. Members also supported installing a climate-controlled unit to house an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) at the city’s ball diamonds.

Additional actions included hiring two seasonal maintenance employees pending background checks and reviewing information on a potential rental inspection program. Officials also discussed forming a committee in conjunction with the school to explore improvements to the community’s softball diamond.
