Iowa fuel prices rise sharply

Gas prices are on the rise across Iowa, according to the latest report from AAA.

The average price for regular unleaded gasoline increased 16 cents from last week to $3.35 per gallon statewide. That’s also 45 cents higher than this time a year ago. The national average currently sits at $3.84 per gallon, up 26 cents from last week.

Crude oil prices also moved sharply higher. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $11.82 to $99.07 per barrel, while Brent crude increased $17.07 to $108.91. One year ago, those prices were significantly lower, with WTI at $67.40 and Brent at $71.93.

Diesel prices in Iowa climbed 21 cents this week to an average of $4.63 per gallon, though that remains 44 cents below the national average.

As of Wednesday afternoon, GasBuddy reports local prices for regular unleaded at $3.49 per gallon in Hampton and Parkersburg, and $3.29 in Clarion.
