The North Butler-Clarksville boys wrestling team concluded its season less than a month ago, but offseason workouts have already begun. Head Coach Adam Holm says they’ve had strong participation in voluntary workouts since the end of the season.
“We actually started for open mat, it’s Thursdays and Sundays for us,” Holm says. “We’re pushing for them to show up, and we had a big crowd yesterday, 17 kids and that’s junior high and high schoolers together showed up, which isn’t bad for us. So we’re already looking to improve starting off right after a couple of weeks off. We’re just gonna keep trying to push that and try to get as many kids. They are multi-sport athletes and we don’t wanna take away from anything that they have got going on.”
With two state qualifiers and several others who compiled strong records throughout the season expected back next year, the stage is set for a quality team. Holm describes some of the initial objectives he hopes the wrestlers can accomplish during the offseason.
“I think we need to be a little bit more aggressive. We’ve got to be more physical. I think a few matches we let the other kid dictate how things were going to go. We’re trying to get that instilled to them before we start next season, just be more aggressive, more hand fighting and don’t let them dictate the match.”
Five seniors have departed the program.
