The Ackley City Council approved an ordinance during its March 11th meeting, updating city codes related to nuisance abatement and junk and junk vehicles. The ordinance, which amends Chapters 50 and 51, expands definitions of nuisance conditions and clarifies what constitutes “junk,” aiming to address property maintenance and safety concerns across the community.

Following a public hearing with no comments, council members unanimously approved the third reading and adopted the ordinance. The updated regulations include standards for structural upkeep, sanitation, exterior maintenance, and inoperable or discarded materials stored on properties.

In other business, the council approved a bid of $616,484.38 from Heartland Asphalt for portions of the 2026 street resurfacing and preservation project after discussion regarding minor bid irregularities. The council also accepted the resignation of Public Works Supervisor Kendall Meyer, effective March 27th, and approved advertising to fill multiple public works positions.
