As the 2025-26 season begins, the Belmond-Klemme boys track team is focused on getting athletes to the state meet. After moving up to Class 2A last year and finishing without a state qualifier, Head Coach Shannon Muhlenbruch says the Broncos are using that experience as motivation heading into the new season.
“We feel like we got some unfinished business from last year to get in some things in the state,” says Muhlenbruch. “I mean, it’s a long process, but it’s a mindset and that’s the mindset that we start with on day one.”
The new season also brings reclassification, with the Broncos moving back to Class 1A. As the team begins to assess its lineup, Muhlenbruch says a deep sophomore class will play a key role this season.
“I don’t have a ton of juniors,” says Muhlenbruch. “But I’m loaded with a sophomore class that’s pretty competitive and kind of fills all the niches of every, you know, anything from sprinters to long distance to field events. So it’s kind of nice that we have that luxury. So my sophomores are going to have to do a lot of step up for us this year.”
The Broncos open the season Saturday at the BV indoor meet in Storm Lake.
