The Iowa State Fair is rolling out several parking and traffic improvements for 2026 aimed at making travel to and from the fairgrounds smoother and safer.

Fair officials say the changes come after reviewing traffic patterns and feedback from fairgoers, neighbors and vendors following the 2025 fair.

One of the biggest updates is a new free park-and-ride option at Southridge Mall. The location replaces the previous Southeast Polk High School site after the city of Pleasant Hill ended its agreement with the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority.

Fairgoers can still use DART bus service from the Center Street Parking Garage and the state Capitol for $3 per person, while the new Southridge Mall shuttle service will be free. All buses will drop off and pick up at Gate 10.

Additional improvements include a new parking lot entrance at East 38th Street and University Avenue, along with plans to reduce on-grounds parking to improve pedestrian safety and ease congestion.

The 2026 Iowa State Fair will run Aug. 13-23.
