Wright County residents may soon have access to financial assistance for roof repairs through a new state-supported program.
According to a press release from Wright County Economic Development, the agency is partnering with the MIDAS Council of Governments to offer the 2026 Community Development Block Grant Roofing Replacement Program.
The program, administered through the Iowa Economic Development Authority, provides up to $24,000 per household to replace failing roofs, including shingles, decking, gutters and downspouts. The funding is structured as a five-year forgivable loan.
To qualify, households must meet income guidelines set at or below 80 percent of the area median income, with limits based on household size. Homes must also be owner-occupied, insured and located outside the 100-year floodplain.
Officials say residents in Wright County cities and rural areas should contact their local city hall to be added to an interest list. Communities must also complete a public hearing process before the May 22 application deadline to be considered for funding.
If approved by the state, formal homeowner applications are expected to open later this summer.
