Iowa drivers are seeing some relief at the pump this week, as gas prices declined slightly across the state.

According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa is $3.31 per gallon as of Wednesday. That’s down 4 cents from last week, but still 30 cents higher than a year ago. The national average rose to $3.98 per gallon, up 14 cents from last week.

Locally, prices are slightly higher than the state average. A gallon of regular unleaded is $3.49 in Hampton, $3.49 in Iowa Falls and $3.49 in Allison.

Crude oil prices also dropped this week. West Texas Intermediate crude fell $8.53 per barrel to $90.54, while Brent crude dropped $7.25 to $101.66. One year ago, WTI crude was $69.48 and Brent crude was $73.78.

Diesel prices moved in the opposite direction. The statewide average for diesel increased 22 cents to $4.85 per gallon. That compares to $3.33 a year ago. AAA reports the current Iowa diesel price is 148 cents lower than the national average of $3.37.
