OnTheGoMedia has announced plans to acquire key assets of the Hampton Chronicle.
The Hampton-based media company says it has entered into a Letter of Intent with Mid America Publishing to purchase the Chronicle’s brand name, trademarks, subscriber base, advertising accounts, and archives. The move comes as the newspaper prepares to publish its final edition on April 1st.
OnTheGoMedia President Shawn Dietz says the goal is to preserve local journalism and keep the community informed. He says bringing the Chronicle under the company’s umbrella will help continue its long-standing legacy while expanding local news coverage across radio and digital platforms. As part of the transition, Chronicle Editor Jennifer Burnham will remain in her role moving forward. Dietz says other Chronicle employees may be added in the near future.
While the newspaper’s current print operations are set to end, OnTheGoMedia plans to continue distribution through a third-party partnership, along with its existing broadcast and online channels. Dietz is planning as seamless of a transition as possible for subscribers and advertisers.
The proposed deal is subject to a brief period of due diligence and a final purchase agreement, with a targeted closing date of April 1st.
