The Hampton-Dumont School Board Monday held a public hearing on the district’s next fiscal year budget, which includes a proposed property tax levy of $11.18 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

During the hearing, several community members addressed the board. Dave Schmitt thanked board members for their service, while Jon Petersen questioned the proposed tax increase and recent property purchases. Mark Gerdes also attended to observe the process.

Under old business, the board approved a quote from King Construction of Iowa Falls to remodel the high school west restrooms. Four bids were received.

Board members also set April 27 as the date for another public hearing on the next fiscal year budget and approved cooperative agreements with Northern Iowa and Wartburg College for student teachers.

The board also approved a motion to authorize an investigation into potential superintendent sharing opportunities with another district. Superintendent Tim Felderman said the move is a proactive step as many rural districts in north central Iowa face declining enrollment. He said sharing a superintendent position could generate additional revenue through cost-sharing and state incentives.

Felderman emphasized the district is not in financial distress but said exploring the option now could help maintain long-term financial stability.
