The City of Hampton will begin flushing fire hydrants across the community starting Monday, March 30, as part of routine water system maintenance.

The hydrant flushing process is expected to take about two weeks and will occur on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

City officials say the work will move through Hampton in phases, beginning in the southwest quadrant, followed by the southeast, northwest and northeast sections of town.

Residents may notice temporary drops in water pressure during the flushing process, along with possible rust or discoloration in the water. The city advises customers to check for discoloration and run cold water until it clears before use.

Officials also warn that doing laundry during the flushing period could result in stained clothing. Those with newer water softeners are encouraged to bypass their systems during the maintenance to avoid potential issues caused by pressure fluctuations.

Questions about the hydrant flushing may be directed to Hampton City Hall.
