Gas prices climb 12 cents across Iowa this week

The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa rose 12 cents from last week and now stands at $3.43 per gallon, according to AAA.

The statewide average is up 33 cents from a year ago. Nationally, the average price Wednesday was $4.06 per gallon, up eight cents from last week.

According to GasBuddy, as of Wednesday afternoon, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was selling for $3.59 in Allison, Iowa Falls and Clarion.

Retail diesel prices in Iowa were unchanged this week, holding at an average of $4.85 per gallon. That is $1.42 higher than a year ago but 64 cents lower than the national average of $5.49.

In crude oil trading, West Texas Intermediate rose $9.32 per barrel this week to $99.86. Brent crude increased by 20 cents to $101.86 per barrel. One year ago, WTI sold for $71.61 and Brent crude was $77.78.
