The South Hardin girls golf team enters the 2026 season with a blend of returning experience and new additions. The Tigers return five golfers from last year’s roster while adding five newcomers after graduating four players in the offseason.
Head Coach David Akers says that experience gives the team a built-in leadership group to help develop the newcomers.
“I think these girls that are coming back, I can lean on them to help guide these new girls that have never been out for golf before,” says Akers. “And so luckily, even though I lost some last year, I still got the veteran staff coming back and I think they can really be leaders.”
Akers says the team’s approach this season will focus on balancing competition with keeping the game enjoyable.
“I think this group that’s out there right now is going to be pretty lighthearted and have a lot of fun out there while we’re playing and understanding that they might not all be state-competitive golfers, and they still want to compete, but yet understand that it’s still a game and we’ll do our best to have fun,” says Akers.
The Tigers open the season April 7 in a triangular with NICL opponents Denver and Jesup at Willow Run Country Club in Denver.
