Franklin County officials participate in statewide election security training

The Franklin County Auditor’s Office reports local officials recently participated in election security training exercises aimed at improving preparedness for potential threats.

According to a press release, Franklin County Auditor Katy Flint joined the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office for annual tabletop exercises designed to simulate election-related emergencies.

The discussion-based training allowed participants to evaluate responses to scenarios such as hazardous weather, breaches of physical or cybersecurity, misinformation campaigns and equipment malfunctions.

Flint tells RadioOnTheGo News she attended alongside members of her staff and Franklin County EMA Director Eric Arenholz.

The annual exercises reach hundreds of election officials and security partners across Iowa.
