The Hampton Tree Board plans on planting around 70 trees this year with grant funding from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The tree board’s friends group recently received a $22,040 grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, with funding awarded by the US Forest Service.
Franklin County Conservation Director Ned Parker says the funds will be used to purchase trees to be planted on public property around Franklin County.
Parker says the tree board has identified areas where trees have been lost in the city right-of-way, along with new areas that would benefit from having trees planted. He says the tree board has selected a diversity of tree species.
Homeowners are encouraged to contact the tree board if interested in having a tree planted in front of their home. Parker says the trees will be planted in the city right-of-way. If there is no sidewalk, areas may still quality as long as they are on city property. The trees, which will be potted and around five to eight feet tall, will be planted by the tree board, at no cost to the homeowner.
Interested homeowners can contact tree board members Randy Sanders at 515-681-1826 or Dick Lukensmeyer at 641-425-7200.
Parker says they will do another round of tree planting with the funds next spring.
