Gov. Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for five Iowa counties, including Grundy County, in response to severe weather that began April 13 and continues to impact the state.

The proclamation also covers Carroll, Crawford, Harrison and Washington counties, allowing state resources to be used for response and recovery efforts. It also activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program for affected residents. The proclamation is effective immediately and will remain in place for 30 days unless extended or terminated.

Officials say the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program offers up to $7,000 to eligible households with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level. Funds may be used for home or vehicle repairs, replacement of personal property or food, and temporary housing. Applicants must provide original receipts for reimbursement.

The Disaster Case Advocacy Program helps individuals with disaster-related hardship develop recovery plans and connect with available resources. There are no income requirements, and the program remains open for 180 days from the date of the proclamation.

More information and application materials are available through the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website.
