After picking up its first win of the 2025-2026 season, the Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls soccer team will travel to Belmond on Monday to face Wright County. The match will air on 104.9 KLMJ.

In their win against Charles City last week, the Bulldogs found success by forcing the defense to spread out through timely passes, opening up offensive opportunities. Head Coach Jackie Finley says this is a strategy the team has been working on.

“So we’ve talked a lot about getting rid of the ball quicker, taking a couple touches and looking for the open pass to get the defense moving, playing the ball to the outside and then back to the inside again to get the defense moving,” says Finley. “But I’m happy to see that what we’ve been talking about and working on in practice is translating to the field.”

As the Bulldogs look to keep the momentum building, Finley says she hopes the team continues to grow more confident in the style of play shown during their recent win.

“We took a lot more risk, I think, in terms of shot selection, in terms of choice of pass, when to press, when to not,” says Finley. “And I think that little bit more of the risky play ended up paying off big time. So I’m hoping that more of that builds more confidence.”

Wright County enters the match after tying Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and will be seeking its first win of the season.

Pregame coverage starts at 5:25 p.m. with kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
