In a press release issued Monday night, U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, a Republican from New Hartford, unveiled a massive funding package aimed at bolstering federal law enforcement and border security. The targeted reconciliation bill proposes a significant investment in national safety, allocating funds through fiscal year 2029.
The legislation designates over $30 billion for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and nearly $3.5 billion for Customs and Border Protection to support hiring, training, and technology upgrades like body-worn cameras. Additionally, the bill provides over $1.4 billion to the Department of Justice to combat drug trafficking, public corruption, and child smuggling.
Grassley stated the measure is a necessary step to provide certainty for federal officers and safeguard American communities. He criticized recent disruptions to Department of Homeland Security operations, asserting that this funding ensures law enforcement can carry out their missions without further delay.
