Two area students — West Fork senior Ivy Hartman and H-D-CAL senior Ronald Jake Minardi — were recently recognized for their academic excellence during the 24th Annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony in Des Moines on April 26.

Hartman, who lives in Sheffield with her parents and sister, grew up helping at the family tree farm, along with participating in and holding leadership roles in 4-H and FFA. After graduation, Hartman has plans of attending NIACC, where she will pursue an AA degree in accounting. She then plans on obtaining a master’s degree in accounting from UNI.

“This experience was very cool and it felt good to get some recognition,” she told the Chronicle.

Minardi, who lives in Hampton with his parents, has been involved with student council, concert band, jazz band, honor band and all-state auditions throughout the years. He’s also won several Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. After graduating from high school, he plans on attending Johns Hopkins University, where he will pursue a degree in neuroscience for a career in research or medicine.

“I think education is an accumulation of efforts throughout the years and I wouldn’t be where I am without all of these educators,” he said. “There is an element of recognition to this award that makes me feel seen.”
