Belmond City Council meeting recap from May 18

The Belmond City Council approved a fiscal year 2025-26 budget amendment and took several other actions during its most recent regular meeting on May 18.
The council approved a resolution after a public hearing in which no public comments were received. City Manager Cody Nicholas highlighted that the amendment covers several expenses, including police wages, training and academy costs, equipment for the fire department, the payoff of a loader and plow truck, Edmunds software, water plant and lift station repairs, and work on Third Street Northeast and the pool project.
The council also approved the second reading of an ordinance dealing with sewer service charges before waiving the third reading and adopting the ordinance in final form.
In other business, the council approved an engagement agreement with Ahlers and Cooney for the 2026 Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvement Project at a cost of $1,500. 
The council also approved an annual audit engagement letter with Fort and Schlegel for $12,500, named the Wright County Independent as the city’s official newspaper and approved an amended employee pay plan for two police officers.
Public Works Director Fournier reported water plant repairs are complete, the Third Street Northeast project continues and work is moving forward on the pool project.
