Beau Klaver won the Republican nomination for Iowa House District 55 on Tuesday, capturing more than 71% of the vote in the race to succeed State Rep. Shannon Latham.
Klaver received 1,866 votes, or 71.19%, according to unofficial results from the secretary of state’s website. Kurtis Bower finished with 430 votes (16.41%). Brian Young, who suspended his campaign in April but remained on the ballot, received 320 votes (12.21%).
House District 55 includes all of Franklin and Hamilton counties, along with portions of Wright and Story counties.
Klaver advances to the November general election, where he will face Democrat Cynthia Paschen, who was unopposed in the Democratic primary. The seat became open after Latham announced she would not seek reelection.
