Sweeney defeats Damiano in Senate District 27 GOP Primary

Incumbent State Sen. Annette Sweeney won the Republican nomination for Iowa Senate District 27 on Tuesday, defeating Iowa Falls business owner Rocky Damiano.

Sweeney received 3,502 votes, or 68.53%, according to unofficial results. Damiano garnered 1,596 votes, or 31.23%.

Sweeney, who lives in Iowa Falls, was first elected to the Iowa Senate in a 2018 special election and currently represents District 27.

Iowa Senate District 27 covers all of Hardin and Grundy counties, along with Poweshiek County and parts of Black Hawk and Tama counties.

With no candidates filing for the Democratic nomination, Sweeney currently has no announced opponent for the November general election.
