A local program aimed at keeping children fed over the summer break is seeing an overwhelming response, prompting organizers to issue an urgent call for community volunteers. The Hansen Family Hospital Foundation officially launched its Summer Meal Program this week at Pineview Elementary School in Iowa Falls. Opening day on Tuesday (6/2/26) was an incredible success, with 220 children stopping by. In total, volunteers prepared and distributed 1,320 meals to local kids.

Organizers say the high turnout underscores a major need in the community, but it also means they need more hands on deck to keep the program running smoothly. Based on Tuesday’s numbers, the foundation has doubled its volunteer requirements from four to eight individuals per shift.

There is an immediate need for volunteers Friday (6/5/26), at Pineview Elementary. Two shifts are currently open in meal prep from 10 until 11 a.m. and meal distribution from 11 until 1 p.m. The Summer Meal Program will operate every Tuesday and Friday through August 7. Community members interested in volunteering for Friday or future shifts can sign up directly online through the Hansen Family Hospital Foundation 2026 Summer Meal Program page. A link to that page is available attached with this news story at RadioOnTheGo.com.
