The Marshalltown High School Volleyball team has been involved in many things this summer as they prepare for the season. One thing they have been doing several times a week this summer are open gyms held at the MHS Roundhouse. MHS Volleyball Coach Jen O’Neil talked about the value of an open gym.
“Absolutely. The more time you can get in the gym and the more touches you get on the ball, the better. We’ve been really fortunate to have great attendance from our incoming freshmen this summer, which I think is really important. We talk about it every time they’re in the gym—the more you’re here, the more you’re learning, and the bigger step ahead you’ll be when the season starts.
We work on skill development, but we also spend time on team drills. We talk about communication and begin building the foundation of what we believe in and how we operate as a program during the summer, instead of waiting until August 10 to get started.”
Marshalltown placed 2nd in the Iowa Alliance North last year finishing at 15-20 4-1 in Conference play. Marshalltown will open the season on the road August 27th at Des Moines Roosevelt.
