Residents in Marshalltown and Grundy Center should plan ahead for significant road closures as RAGBRAI travels through the area on July 22 and 23.
On Wednesday, July 22, as riders arrive in Marshalltown for their overnight stop, Main Street will be closed to the public from Valley View Road to the Marshall County Courthouse from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The closure is intended to provide a safe route for thousands of cyclists traveling into downtown. Also 13th Street will be closed from Main to Summit from 6 AM to 6 PM
Also in Marshalltown, the Kwik Star on 6th Street will be closed to vehicle traffic on July 22 and July 23 as riders use the nearby campground at the YMCA. In addition, the 6th Street Viaduct will be closed from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, to allow cyclists to safely depart the main campground.
Later on Thursday, July 23, RAGBRAI riders will pass through Grundy Center on their way from Marshalltown to Independence. Cyclists will enter town via the Beaman Blacktop before traveling east on Highway 175. Highway 175 will be closed through Grundy Center, beginning at Casey’s on the west side of town, from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time during the closures.
