The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team hosts Iowa Falls-Alden Friday night for the Battle for Bradford. The game will air on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
The Bulldogs enter with a 1-1 record after defeating Clarion-Goldfield-Dows last week. The Cadets also enter with a 1-1 record after a loss on the road to South Hardin.
The game is shaping up to be an offensive showdown. The Bulldogs have displayed an increasingly stout running game with Luke Showalter and Joseph Powers combining for almost 500 yards on the ground this season. Iowa Falls-Alden Head Coach Eric Walkingstick on the Bulldogs’ running game.
“They’re tough to contain and the thing is you you may contain it you know some certain amount of plays but then all of sudden they break one you know for a big game or for a touchdown so keeping them in check is going to be a tough thing I don’t think you can do it the whole game,” says Walkingstick.
Quarterback Hunter Rieken has also shown he’s capable in the passing game after throwing for 61 yards last week. Cooper Bird has been Rieken’s primary target, catching eight passes for 81 yards so far this season.
The Cadets have presented defenses with an air raid offense early in the season. Karson Kalous has thrown for more than 300 yards while finding multiple receivers out of four- and five-receiver sets. Collin Pieper and Cruz Burroughs lead the Cadets’ offense in receiving, combining for over 200 yards. Bulldogs Head Coach Cole Miller on the Cadets’ offense.
“They got a phenomenal quarterback,” says Miller. “He can sling the rock and they like to use his legs too to try and gash you but he’s a good distributor. They got athletes all around them and you know this team’s pretty experienced. A lot of them have been playing varsity football for three years now so you can see that experience paying off on film and they’re executing at a high level.”
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:15.
