The Marshalltown Library will welcome in authors David and Rose Donavan for a discussion on their new book called the Nastiest Saloon in Iowa, Murder, Prostitution and Corruption in the Heartland. The discussion will be held at the Marshalltown Library on October 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in the community meeting rooms.

The Book details the infamous dive bar in the early 1900s located on East Court Avenue in Des Moines. The Carter Gang ran the bar in what was then called the Des Moines Red Light District across from the river in downtown Des Moines. This was the scene of corruption, gambling, murders, assaults, and prostitution. The public is invited to learn more about this piece of Iowa history. Again, the discussion will be held in the Marshalltown Library on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. This discussion will be free to attend, and you can learn all about the book and they will have copies of the book available to buy at the discussion.
