The Hampton City Council will review a proposed data center policy during its workshop Monday.

The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the Comprehensive Plan amendment move forward following its meeting Tuesday. The commission approved the proposal with a change to Section 2C addressing cooling systems that use coolant instead of water.

NIACOG Senior Planner John Robbins presented a revised draft that incorporates input from Franklin Rural Electric Cooperative. Changes include separating water and electric utilities by jurisdiction and encouraging the reuse of existing structures when a data center reaches the end of its useful life.

The proposed amendment establishes general policy in the Comprehensive Plan. Specific regulations for data centers would be addressed later through a city ordinance.

The Hampton Council will also review a draft ordinance regarding e-bike use within city limits.

The workshop begins at 6 p.m. Monday at city hall.
