Hampton-Dumont-CAL senior Charlee Morton threw a personal-best 149-04 in the discus, but placed second at the Drake Relays event Thursday. Morton was the defending two-time champion in the event.
Morton surpassed her season-best by throwing 140-07 on her first attempt, and achieved her top mark on the third attempt. Delilah Subsin of Ottumwa was the champion by rocketing a 156-09 on her second attempt, the best mark by an Iowa high school girl since 2021.
Morton outperformed her seed, having entered the event with the eighth-best throw. She’ll look to win her third straight Drake Relays shot put title Friday at 9:00 a.m.
