Thomas Craighton is resigning as the Hardin County Emergency Management Coordinator. The Hardin County Emergency Management Commission accepted his resignation Tuesday night. Craighton held the same position in Franklin County before being hired to work in Hardin County in 2019.
In his resignation letter, Craighton listed several accomplishments while working in Hardin County, and pointed out that he took the role of Hardin County Safety Coordinator without additional compensation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Craighton says the Hardin County Board of Supervisors notified the emergency management commission that county funding would no longer support both the director and deputy director positions. He says this along with a 50-thousand dollar budget reduction necessitates a staffing adjustment.
Craighton’s resignation is effective as of June 30th. McKenzie Burton, who has been the deputy director, was appointed Tuesday night to take over for Craighton, and begins her new job July 1st.
