
Thursday, the Hampton City Council discussed filling the Ward 1 vacancy, following the resignation of Bill Hodge, effective July 1st. The council then approved a motion on a 4-0 vote to fill the vacancy by appointment with applications available through June 6th at 4:00 p.m. Applications can be picked up at city hall and are available online at hamptonia.us.
Candidates will be interviewed Monday, June 9th and the council will make an appointment to Ward 1 Thursday, June 12th. Hodge abstained from this vote and councilmember Barry Lamos was absent from the meeting.
In other business, the Hampton City Council discussed the first reading of an ordinance, amending chapter 56 on dangerous and vicious animals. A motion was made by councilmember Bill Holmstrom to disapprove the first reading but it died for lack of a second.
A motion was then made to approve the first reading of the ordinance and it passed on a 4-1 vote with Holmstrom casting the no vote.
