The #7 (2A) West Fork softball team soared late for a 10-2 win over North Butler in six innings. The West Fork baseball team navigated a pitchers dual for a 2-0 win over the Bearcats on Monday in Sheffield.

“I was just really excited to play hard for my team. I love this team so much. I just went up there and I was thinking, I gotta keep going and I can’t let this energy die,” says Schoning. “Yeah, that was pretty cool. That was the first time I got to do that. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates,” says Dickman. “I’m really excited. We have a lot of returners from last year. Libby Trewin, our pitcher, our ace, she’s doing really good this season, lots of strikeouts. We just gotta keep going, foot on the gas, keep working hard in practice, that’s all,” says Schoning. “It was definitely cool to play this many home games in a row, especially to start off the season. It really got us comfortable with playing and all the nerves out,” says Dickman.
Trewin earned her fourth win, recording nine strikeouts in six innings. North Butler’s Kamri Groen had seven strikeouts in the loss.
#7 (2A) West Fork (4-0) is scheduled to be at Newman Catholic on Tuesday. North Butler (1-4) is scheduled to be at Saint Ansgar on Tuesday.
In the baseball game, each team got runners on but were kept off the scoreboard through the first 4.5 innings. The Warhawks broke through for the first run of the game in the fifth, on a Bearcats error that allowed a run to score from third. The Warhawks added an insurance run to go up 2-0 on an of course throwdown to third by the Bearcats that allowed a run to steal home.
Warhawks Head Coach Kayden Ames on approach at the plate and outing on the mound for Despenas.
“We just needed to get a couple of base runners. I knew we’d be able to take a few bags, if we could lay the bunts down the way we needed to, which we did. A couple runs was likely going to win this game with where we were at in middle of the fifth inning,” says Ames. “Trevor has been huge for the program ever since his sophomore year. He goes out there and he competes. When he’s on the mound, he’s got that look in his eye, he wants to strike you out, which is really what you need. He threw strikes, and that’s what we asked for. Everybody behind him in the field, was flying around making plays. That’s all you can ask for from Trevor.”
West Fork’s Trevor Despenas pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and only three hits allowed for the win. North Butler’s Brody Wangsness worked six innings with 13 strikeouts and did not allow a hit or an earned run.
West Fork (2-3) is scheduled to host Clear Lake on Tuesday. North Butler (1-5) is scheduled to be at Saint Ansgar on Tuesday.
