Monday, the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors approved the temporary closure of 275th Street from September 4th-7th during the daylight hours. A portion of the road is in what is called a safety box as part of the upcoming International Aerobatics Club Chapter 79 Regional Aerobatic Competition to be held at the Mason City Municipal Airport.
The safety box is the area in which aerobatic competitions take place. The upper and lower limits of the box are set based on the competition category a competitor is flying in. The competitor has to stay within the lateral limits of the box and within the height limits. The lower limits of the box are, for safety reasons, strictly enforced.
275th Street runs from the east side of the airport to the northwest corner of Mason City. The Regional Aerobatic Competition will not be open to the public.
