North Butler and West Fork Softball Went 2-0 at G-H-V Classic on Saturday

The North Butler and #8 (2A) West Fork softball teams both went undefeated at the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura tournament on Saturday. North Butler won 9-2 over G-H-V and 6-2 over Denver. West Fork won 5-1 over #8 (1A) Newman Catholic and 4-0 over Denver.

To highlight the day for the Bearcats, Kamri Groen earned two wins with 22 strikeouts, Izzy O’Dowd had four RBIs and Mackenzie Shultz had three RBIs. North Butler (13-9) will host Nashua-Plainfield (4-16) on Monday. Head Coach Austin Guerrero on entering the final week of the regular season. 

“We’re going to play a lot of good teams again. With aggressiveness in the battle we have to work through those. Then play our best softball before we get to postseason, is the best thing we can do,” says Guerrero. “We’re excited for our opportunities, the short few we have left and the postseason will be right around the corner.”

The first pitch will be at 6:00 p.m. in Allison.

The North Butler baseball team (4-10) will also be in action as they will look for a season series sweep against the Huskies at 7:30 p.m.

To highlight the day for the Warhawks, Libby Trewin achieved 900 career strikeouts with nine in each game, and allowed only one earned run in two wins. JoAnna Wallace had two home runs and three RBIs.

West Fork (15-4) will travel to #4 (2A) Osage (22-0) on Monday. In the first meeting, the Green Devils rallied for a 9-8 win in nine innings on June 9. Head Coach Sadie Winfrey on the highly anticipated rematch.

“I hope it is as good of a game as it was the first time. We were busy this weekend. They had a little bit of rest. Hopefully we carry that momentum into Monday. We know that’s going to be a tough one,” says Winfrey. “Those really are the games that’s best for our team, with our girls, facing power and teams that are very good. Those are the matchups that are going to be the best for us. I’m excited to do that.”

The first pitch will be at 6:00 p.m. in Osage.

The West Fork baseball team (9-9) will also make the trip up to Osage, on the hunt for their first win over the Green Devils since 2021. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
