The Grundy Center softball team couldn’t find similar magic as it did in last year’s regional quarterfinal at Alburnett, falling 3-1 to the Pirates in the same round Wednesday in 2A Region 5. Kyndra Dieken drove in the team’s only run in the first inning. Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Alburnett drove in two runs on one swing to take the lead for good. The Spartans have ended their season at 17-11.
South Hardin put #4 (2A) Osage on upset alert in a 2A Region 4 quarterfinal, but fell 5-3. The Tigers took a 3-0 lead by scoring once in the first and twice in the third. Grace Eller drove in the first run and Charlee Rosonke had a two-run homer, but Osage scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning. South Hardin has ended at 4-20.
Belmond-Klemme couldn’t sustain momentum in the late innings and fell 8-2 at home to Ogden. The Bulldogs came back from a 2-1 deficit with three runs each in the fourth and sixth, and the Broncos never bounced back. They’ve concluded their season at 17-8.
