Ackley EMS is expected to be operational within the next week with four volunteer First Responders ready to assist with medical emergencies. The local team will provide initial care ahead of the arrival of Iowa Falls EMS, which serves as the city’s primary ambulance provider. Eldora EMS remains the secondary provider.
Ackley EMS shared the update Monday afternoon in a post on their official Facebook page.
The plan to create a First Responder group was approved by the Ackley City Council back in May, along with efforts to begin recruiting local volunteers. A list of interested residents has since been compiled, and the city discussed possibly offering some pay for calls responded to.
Ackley EMS also plans to host a training class later this fall for anyone interested in joining the team as an Emergency Medical Responder.
The move aims to improve response times and strengthen emergency care in the Ackley area.
