Catherine Crooks of Franklin County has been recognized with a prestigious Iowa Democratic Party Hall of Fame award for Outstanding Democratic Party Volunteer. Crooks, who serves on the Latimer City Council, was honored for her longtime service as Chair of the Franklin County Democrats, Chair of the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding, and for her work on behalf of political candidates and Iowa politics.
She told RadioOnTheGo News, “I feel very honored to have received this award. It feels really good to be recognized.” Crooks continued, “I knew that three awards would be given that night by the IDP (Iowa Democratic Party), but I did not know that I was receiving one of them, so it was a true surprise.”
The award was presented August 14th at the 22nd Annual Iowa Wing Ding, held at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. The Wing Ding is one of Iowa’s largest grassroots political gatherings, drawing state and national candidates each year. This year’s event featured two governor candidates, five U.S. Senate candidates, five U.S. House candidates, a secretary of state candidate, and a former U.S. Capitol Police officer. Along with a buffet dinner, live music, and speeches, the 2025 theme highlighted “Power to the People.”
