A crash on Interstate 35 in Franklin County was caused Tuesday, Sept. 23, when a vehicle stopped to avoid a baby pig in the roadway.
Franklin County Sheriff Aaron Dodd tells Radio On The Go News the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. near mile marker 173 in the southbound lanes. An unknown vehicle stopped to avoid the pig, and a Toyota RAV4 driven by Carolyn Dascoli of West Des Moines also stopped.
A semi driven by Khay Puoy of Temple City, California, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the RAV4. The RAV4 was pushed across the southbound lanes, through the median and into the northbound lanes before coming to rest.
Dascoli was evaluated at the scene by Franklin General EMS and West Franklin EMS and was medically cleared. The initial vehicle that stopped for the pig left the scene and has not been identified.
